Zotero: Don't get lost in the details - a short introduction + Q&A (Zoom)

12. Aug

Getting started with Zotero on August 12th, 2026 from 2:15 - 3:45 pm (Zoom)

Collecting and organizing references, creating literature lists or inserting references and bibliographies into a paper are all part of academic writing. Reference management programs are helpful tools that can make these tasks much easier. Zotero is a reference management program that grew out of the open-source movement. The desktop version runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.

In this short introduction, an experienced colleague will demonstrate how to save search results from catalogs and databases directly into Zotero, how to attach and annotate PDFs, and how to transfer the collected references into your paper. After that, there will be time for your questions.

For the demonstration, the following systems/programs will be used:

  • Windows 10 or higher
  • Zotero 9 for Windows
  • Firefox or Chrome
  • MS Word for Windows or LibreOffice

The main part of the event will run until 3:15 p.m. After that, there will be a Q&A session until 3:45 p.m. Everyone who is interested is welcome to attend. Please register for the workshop.

  • Registration for students from College and Graduate School: Either follow this link to myStudy or find it there under „zusätzliche Angebote (ohne CPs) > Medien- und Informationszentrum > Literaturverwaltung und wissenschaftliches Arbeiten“. The login details will followon the day of the event.
  • Registration for everyone else who is interested:  Our registration platform

Please install Zotero before the session.. There is unfortunately no time during the session itself to troubleshoot installation issues. You should have either Zotero 9 or 8 installed; Zotero 9 is recommended.
