Leuphana nominated as role model for German Sustainability Award
2023-08-04 Lüneburg/Düsseldorf. The German Sustainability Award Foundation (DNP) has now announced the nominees for this year's award ceremony. Leuphana University of Lüneburg is among the 10 institutions selected for nomination nationwide in each of two categories. This year, for the first time, the DNP, in cooperation with the DIHK, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment and other partners, is awarding prizes to the pioneers of sustainability in 100 industries. Expert juries have selected the nominees. On November 23, the winners will be honored in Düsseldorf.
Leuphana was nominated by the juries as a model institution from the education and research sector. There it is among the 10 selected in the sector schools and universities as well as in the sector education and training. Leuphana is described as a pioneer in sustainable university design because it has been working for many years to make the university as sustainable and socially responsible as possible. Other nominated universities include TU Munich, Humboldt University Berlin and the University of Hamburg.
Leuphana is also the only university to have been nominated as a role model in the field of education and training. This is primarily thanks to its part-time master's degree programs with a focus on sustainability. In this way, it provides a direct transfer to the economy in order to qualify specialists and managers for sustainability topics.
At the DNP, independent expert juries with expertise and contextual knowledge decide on the pioneers on the basis of sustainability profiles: companies that show effective, successful and exemplary contributions to transformation in their industry, that have become or should become role models.
