Leuphana in the final of the German Sustainability Award

2023-09-20 Lüneburg/Düsseldorf. The German Sustainability Award Foundation (DNP) has now announced the finalists for this year's presentation of the renowned award. Leuphana University Lüneburg is one of the three institutions selected nationwide in each of two categories that have made it to the finals. This year, the DNP, in cooperation with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Federal Ministry for the Environment and other partners, for the first time honours the pioneers of sustainability in 100 industries. Expert juries have selected the finalists. On 23 November, the winners will receive their awards in Düsseldorf.

Leuphana was selected by the juries as a model institution in the education and research sector. It is the only university among the three selected in the schools and universities sector as well as in the education and training sector. Leuphana is described as a pioneer in sustainable university design because it has already been working successfully for many years to make the university as sustainable and socially responsible as possible. Other universities in the final are the TU Munich and the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development.

Leuphana is also the only university to have made it to the final as a role model in the field of education and training. This is mainly thanks to its part-time Master's degree programmes with a focus on sustainability. In this way, it provides a direct transfer to the economy in order to qualify specialists and managers for sustainability topics.

At the DNP, independent expert juries with expertise and contextual knowledge decide on the pioneers on the basis of sustainability profiles: companies that show effective, successful and exemplary contributions to transformation in their industry, that have become or should become role models.
