Call for proposals "Science Spaces": Leuphana successful with three applications
2024-04-26 Lüneburg/Hanover. The state of Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation have made a good 45 million euros in funding available for the "Science Spaces" program. The state's universities were able to apply with project proposals. Leuphana University Lüneburg submitted the maximum number of three applications and was the only university to be successful in all three cases. An interdisciplinary, high-caliber committee headed by the Volkswagen Foundation recommended the best 16 of a total of 47 projects for funding. The Ministry of Science and Culture has now followed the vote of the expert panel.
The funding initiative aims to enable universities to strategically develop their locations as part of an efficient science system in Lower Saxony in the best possible way in the coming years by working together in science areas. All projects therefore bring together several universities on one topic. The applicant university leads the project.
Leuphana heads research collaborations in the fields of education, sustainability and economics. It is thus positioning itself in Lower Saxony as a university with a strong research focus in the humanities and social sciences. The projects in detail:
"Future Trends in Education" together with the Universities of Oldenburg and Osnabrück
"Sustainability Governance of Global Value Chains" together with the University of Osnabrück and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA)
"Behavioral Economics and Social Transformation" together with the Universities of Hanover, Göttingen, Vechta, Clausthal, Osnabrück and Oldenburg
Leuphana is also involved in the "Provenance and Collection Research Digital" project led by the University of Oldenburg.
The aim of the Science Spaces is to jointly develop new solutions for current challenges, said Science Minister Falko Mohrs and continued: "The selected projects reflect the breadth and quality of Lower Saxony's research landscape. They are great examples of how overarching collaboration not only works, but also drives innovation."
