Being German, Becoming Muslim: Race, Religion and Conversion in the New Europe (Esra Özyürek)
23. Jan
The lecture refers to my book with the same title. "Being German, Becoming Muslim" explores how Germans come to Islam within this antagonistic climate, how they manage to balance their love for Islam with their society's fear of it, how they relate to immigrant Muslims, and how they shape debates about race, religion, and belonging in today's Europe. (Esra Özyürek)
As part of the lecture series “Transkulturalität und Migration. Perspektiven der Kulturwissenschaften’” by Prof. Dr. Susanne Leeb, Esra Özyürek (Sultan Qaboos Professor of Abrahamic Faiths and Shared Values, University of Cambridge) will give a lecture on “Being German, Becoming Muslim: Race, Religion and Conversion in the New Europe”. The lecture series is part of the Bachelor module “Kontroversen der Kulturwissenschaften”, but is open to all interested parties.
