Being German, Becoming Muslim: Race, Religion and Conversion in the New Europe (Esra Özyürek)
23. Jan.
The lecture refers to my book with the same title. "Being German, Becoming Muslim" explores how Germans come to Islam within this antagonistic climate, how they manage to balance their love for Islam with their society's fear of it, how they relate to immigrant Muslims, and how they shape debates about race, religion, and belonging in today's Europe. (Esra Özyürek)
Als Teil der Ringvorlesung “Transkulturalität und Migration. Perspektiven der Kulturwissenschaften” von Prof. Dr. Susanne Leeb hält Esra Özyürek (Sultan Qaboos Professor of Abrahamic Faiths and Shared Values, University of Cambridge) eine Vorlesung (auf Englisch) zum Thema “Being German, Becoming Muslim: Race, Religion and Conversion in the New Europe”. Die Ringvorlesung findet im Rahmen des Bachelor-Moduls "Kontroversen der Kulturwissenschaften" statt, steht aber allen Interessierten offen.
