Art after War in Latin America. Institutional Commemoration, Artistic Critique, and Architectural Memory

09. Jan

Jan 9, 2026, 1 to 5 pm, Kunstraum at Leuphana University

This series of talks explores the possibilities and challenges of engaging with Latin America’s dictatorships and wars within the practice of art, architecture, and the museum. Bringing together contributions from Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires/Berlin, and Bogotá, along with the perspectives of students from the seminar “Art Practice and Political Violence: Transnational Perspectives from the Americas”, the series asks: What is the role of state institutions in commemorating historical violence? What power do artistic practice and social involvement hold for engaging with the ongoing effects of war?

1:45-3:15 pm: Julia Mensch (Buenos Aires/Berlin): Continuity and critique in the practice of art.
