Developmental Psychology

Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Developmental Psychology at Leuphana University of Lüneburg!

In view of the great importance of emotions for learning, interpersonal relationships and (mental) health, the Department of Developmental Psychology is engaged in empirical research on the social-emotional development of children and adolescents. Central to the scientific work is the question of under what conditions emotion knowledge and emotion regulation develop and what role children's executive functions and linguistic abilities play in this.

In a series of third-party funded research projects (e.g. BMBF, BMFSFJ, MWK Lower Saxony), intervention studies on the promotion of emotion knowledge in children and adolescents in kindergarten and school are carried out together with cooperation partners from science and practice. In this context, the Adaptive Test of Emotion Knowledge (ATEM) was developed.
