Guest Lecture: Asian Constitutional Law

We are pleased to welcome Professor Dr Maartje de Visser for a digital guest lecture at the Joachim Herz Doctoral School of Law on Thursday, 24 October 2024.
After graduating from Maastricht University and Oxford University, Maartje received her PhD from Tilburg University (cum laude). She then held assistant professor positions at the Universities of Tilburg, Maastricht and Singapore Management University (SMU). At SMU she was promoted to full professor in January 2024 and her research focuses on constitutional law (and legal values), constitutional courts and transnational legal dialogues.
In her guest lecture, she will give us an insight into Asian Constitutional Law, its differences (in legal theory and practice) from European legal traditions, and the transformative elements of this legal system. In doing so, she will broaden our understanding of law (and its functioning) in social and global contexts.
