Guest Lecture: Professor Dr. Jann Lay
19. Nov
- Tuesday, 19 November 2024
- 14:00 to 16:00
- Room C40.601 (Central Building)
On 19 November 2024, Prof. Dr. Jann Lay will be a guest at the Joachim Herz Doctoral School of Law and will give a lecture on the topic of global supply chains with a particular focus on the situation in the Global South.
While the topic of supply chains has been on everyone's lips since the discussion about the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the implementation of the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG), the focus of the corresponding considerations is often on the consequences and (economic) effects in the Global North. In contrast to this tendency, Professor Dr. Lay will concentrate on the social and economic consequences of global supply chains for the Global South.
Professor Dr. Lay is lead research fellow and head of the research programme 'Globalisation and Development' at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). His research focuses on (economic) development in the Global South, with a special emphasis on Africa. He works on issues such as informal entrepreneurship in developing countries, structural change and its impact on poverty and distribution, as well as natural resources and conflicts. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Göttingen (link).
