Obituary for Prof. Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte
2024-11-28
We are deeply saddened and shocked by the news of the death of Professor Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte. We remember him as a vital, humorous and hands-on person, a bridge builder, communicator, and outstanding scientist. This makes it all the more difficult to accept this loss.
With his clear vision and impressive academic expertise, he has left a lasting mark on legal science. Throughout his career, at Leuphana University Lüneburg, the Europakolleg Hamburg, the University of Glasgow and the University of St Andrews, as well as at earlier stations (at the Universities of Bielfeld, Siegen, and Hamburg), he excelled as an academic teacher, a promoter of young scholars, and a leading figure. Not least, he was committed to the Joachim Herz Doctoral School of Law, shaping the lives of all people involved and, in particular, the academic careers of his two doctoral students in the programme. We will never forget his work and are deeply indebted to him for his tireless dedication and passion.
Our thoughts and wishes are with his family and friends at this difficult time. He was not only a scientist, but first and foremost a family man. It is difficult for us to imagine the pain and grief of his loved ones, but we want to assure them of our undivided sympathy and condolences. We therefore mourn the loss of the husband, father, and scientist Professor Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte.
