Leuphana honours international scientist: Paula Jarzabkowski receives honorary doctorate
2025-07-09 Lüneburg, 9 July 2025. Leuphana University Lüneburg will honour international scientist Paula Jarzabkowski with an honorary doctorate at its dies academicus 2025. The organisational researcher is Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Queensland Business School in Brisbane, Australia.
Paula Jarzabkowski is one of the developers of the field of ‘strategy as practice’ in management and organisational research. Her academic work has created a new understanding of organisational and strategic processes and inspired an entire generation of researchers. Her ethnographic work is considered the gold standard for qualitative empirical research.
The economist has published more than 70 journal articles, three books, two edited volumes and eight special issues. She is listed among the top 1% of scientists in ‘Economics and Business’ in the Essential Science Indicators and has more than 22,300 citations.
Paula Jarzabkowski has also made a significant contribution to the topics of action orientation and sustainability, two of Leuphana's guiding principles. Her research on ‘disasters’ and ‘disaster insurance’ has contributed to a better understanding of mechanisms of action in organisations and drawn attention to important issues that were previously only marginally addressed.
The honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Management and Technology at Leuphana is awarded to Paula Jarzabkowski for her outstanding achievements in management and organisational research.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Karina Frick, Prof. Dr. Ben Trott and Dr. Iniobong Essien will receive the Research Award, the ‘Innovation Communities’ will receive the Transfer & Impact Award, and the student initiative ‘Take Initiative!’ will receive the Student Engagement Award at the dies academicus.
