Exhibition "Afrotopia" from 2-18 May 2024 at Leuphana

Black life in Lower Saxony

02. May - 18. May

Black and Lower Saxon, does that go together? These two identities still seem to be a contradiction in terms, yet they are a reality for many Black people. As part of the United Nations Decade for People of African Descent, the Schwarze Schafe e.V. association has designed an exhibition that makes Black, African and Afro-diasporic life in Lower Saxony visible and tangible.

The primary aims of the travelling exhibition are to establish positive narratives and to highlight and present factors that can be decisive for the empowerment of Black people.

The exhibition portrays five well-known Black personalities from Lower Saxony, who present their individual success stories. Through their perspectives, we look at resistance, hurdles and inspiring moments of self-assertion against racism and intersectional discrimination.

The exhibition will be on display in the foyer of the University Library from 2 to 18 May 2024. The library has the following opening hours The library is closed on public holidays.

On 7 May 2024 at 7 pm in lecture hall 4 there will be a round table discussion on the exhibition.

The round table will create a stage for Black people, their stories and experiences.
With Elli Mariyama Manneh, Kalina Magdzinska, Modou Diedhiou and Yvonne Bödler. The discussion will be moderated by Kira Herff.
