DIALOG: DESIGN AUTOMATION IN OPEN, ADAPTIVE DEVELOPMENT ECOSYSTEMS

DIALOG is developing an open and modular framework for the semi-automated design of fixtures and functionally relevant positioning elements. The focus is on combining AI-based geometry analysis, rule-based decision logic and parameterized component models as the foundation for more efficient, reliable and flexibly adaptable design processes.

At the core of the framework is an end-to-end digital workflow that systematically captures practical requirements from industrial manufacturing and translates them into a structured data and knowledge model. On this basis, suitable design principles and components are identified, geometric relationships are analyzed, and parametric models are provided for automated downstream processing. The workflow is complemented by a fully documented software development kit that enables use across different technologies and application domains.

In this way, DIALOG reduces manual design effort, prevents recurring errors and supports the long-term preservation of expert knowledge. Standardized interfaces, generic data structures and modular functional components ensure that the framework can be transferred to a wide range of industrial use cases and adapted by small and medium-sized enterprises with minimal integration effort.

Through an open demonstrator system, comprehensive technical documentation and the establishment of a regional application network, DIALOG strengthens knowledge and technology transfer between research and industry. The project supports regional companies in accelerating development processes, making existing design knowledge available for long-term use and enhancing their competitiveness through open and adaptive automation solutions.
