About the Talk

Environmental harm and human rights abuses often go unchecked in global value chains. TheEU’s Corporate Sustainability Due DiligenceDirective (CS3D) is an ambitious attempt to closethis governance gap. The Directive is currentlybeing examined within the international andinterdisciplinary research project “Fostering international civil society cooperation: the EU CS3D as a new entry point for a just transition”, atthe University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna,funded by the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund.In his guest lecture, Karl Wörle provides insightsinto the ongoing research, focusing on the role ofcivil society organizations and Global North–Southcooperation. He will analyze the role of these“governance actors” under the CS3D from legal,economic, and political science perspectives.

About the Speaker

Prof. (FH) Dr. Karl Wörle is a Professor of Law at the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna andadmitted to the Austrian Bar. His academic work focuses on corporate law, procedural law, and EU law, with a strong emphasis on comparative and interdisciplinary approaches. He studied law at the University of Innsbruck and the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), and began his academic career as a pre-doctoral assistant. He has received several awards for his academic work and brings eight years of hands-on legal experience from leading Austrian law firms.
