Lehre Plus

Lehre Plus is a nine-month blended learning programme for lecturers who want to professionalise their teaching, revise their existing course design or develop a new one.
Participants study in depth the theoretical and practical foundations for innovating their own courses, competency-based teaching and assessment, student support and counselling, and various feedback and evaluation options. Transfer to teaching practice is supported through dialogue formats, peer exchange on current teaching challenges and practical experimentation. The core of the programme is the development and implementation of your own teaching project and the exploration of teaching design options. The programme takes place in the winter semester 2024/2025 and comprises 90 teaching units (1 teaching unit is 45 minutes). The programme is entirely in German.

Lehre Plus follows on from the Lehre am Start programme. If you have teaching experience and basic knowledge of higher education didactics, it is possible to participate without completing the Lehre am Start programme.

Programme objectives

The Teaching Plus programme is aimed at lecturers who wish to professionalise, revise their existing courses and teach their own courses in the 2024/25 winter semester.
On successful completion of the programme, participants will have

  •  an understanding of teaching innovation
  •  an in-depth knowledge of assessment
  •  An in-depth understanding of competency-based assessment
  •  be able to reflect on and talk about teaching in their own subject community
  •  be able to develop and, ideally, test teaching concepts in depth

Programme structure

The programme is modular in structure. In the accompanying Moodle room, asynchronous self-study units are available to cover the central topics of the modules, and the knowledge is deepened and applied in the synchronous workshops, which take place every two to three weeks. The workshops can take place online, on campus or in a hybrid setting.

The final achievement of the programme is the production of a project report. Participants receive feedback on their final presentation.

Modules

Kick-off (2 AE)

The purpose of the Kick-off event is to get to know the group and to present the project plans for the first time. The group reaches an agreement on how to structure the cooperation in the programme.

Teaching as Design - From idea to project outline (6 WU)
The concept of "Teaching as Design" and the Hamburg Centre for University Teaching and Learning's (HUL) Teaching Path form the central assumptions for the entire programme. Participants will become familiar with both concepts and use them to develop their project ideas.

Module 1: Innovating teaching (6 WU)
In Module 1, participants look at the conditions for the success of good teaching and teaching innovation. In a group context, they receive initial feedback on the current status of their project outlines in order to take the next planning and concretisation steps.

Module 2: Competency-based teaching and assessment (12 WU)
Module 2 enables participants to approach the concept of competences and different forms of assessment in a differentiated way. They transfer this knowledge to the operationalisation of teaching and learning objectives and to their examination and application practice. They also gain an insight into the possibilities of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in assessment processes and discuss the use of AI in assessment.

Module 3: Advising and supporting students (10 WU)
Advising and mentoring are part of a teacher's everyday life. These tasks are often caught between their own demands for intensive support and their own time capacities. In Module 3, participants will learn how to design support and guidance processes, how to approach their role as a guidance counsellor and how to apply this knowledge to typical guidance issues and occasions.

Module 4: Evaluating teaching (10 WU)
In Module 4, participants use their own experience to explore ways of designing, forms of and methods of feedback that are conducive to learning or that are based on learning outcomes during the course. They implement LVE or Shift! or a self-directed feedback method in their course and reflect on their experiences in a peer workshop.

Module 5: Teaching and reflection (16 WU)
Throughout the programme, participants are encouraged to reflect on and transfer what they have learned. In addition to the classroom elements, Module 5 also includes self-study units, peer counselling and observation or, alternatively, microteaching as mandatory components. On the one hand, the module provides an introduction to media didactics and the tools available at Leuphana to support teaching, but it also offers space for reflecting on difficult situations in teaching and working on challenges that participants face in implementing teaching.

Dialogue and exchange (4 WU)
Exchange and dialogue about teaching is still not a matter of course; differentiated discourse about teaching is again a competence to be acquired. With their experience, the didactic knowledge they have acquired and their project plans, the participants become experts who can inspire or initiate a subject-specific dialogue on teaching in their institute / teaching unit. The dialogue event will focus on their own teaching project or, alternatively, on current teaching challenges in their subject.

Project and final assignment (20 WU)
During the programme, participants work on their own teaching project. In the final report, they reflect on the genesis and status of the project and explain the choices made against the background of the didactic content and concepts acquired. They summarise this in a PowerPoint presentation with an audio track.

Closing forum (4 AE)

The Closing forum rounds off the programme with a joint look at participants' projects and findings.

Programme and schedule

Participation and completion

Please check if you can attend as many of the programme events as possible. The accompanying events (such as the kick-off and Closing forum) are also an integral part of Lehre Plus, e.g. to enable group formation and networking.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for the number of units completed (with a minimum of 75% attendance and active participation in the workshops).

Units completed in Lehre am Start will count towards the Blended Learning Certificate for Teaching Competence when participating in the advanced or professionalisation level of Teaching Plus.

The overall certificate is awarded when a minimum of 100 units have been completed.
