Two Leuphana scientists among the world's most cited researchers

2022-11-16 Lüneburg/London. Prof. Dr. Berta Martin-Lopez and Prof. Dr. David Abson from Leuphana University Lüneburg are among the most cited researchers worldwide in their field of research, according to the current "Highly Cited Researchers" report by Clarivate Analytics. Every year, Clarivate compiles a list of international scientists who have had a significant impact on their discipline through their publications. This year, almost 7,000 researchers from 69 countries were selected, almost 370 of them from Germany. Martin-Lopez has managed to place among the top group in her field for the third time.

Berta Martin-Lopez is Professor of International Sustainable Development and Planning at the Social-ecological Systems Institute. Her research examines the role of values, knowledge and institutions in supporting society's transition to sustainability. She is co-editor of the journal Ecosystems and People and is also involved in the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

David Abson is Assistant Professor of Sustainability Economics and Valuation at the Centre for Sustainability Management. His research focuses on the interface between ecology and economics and concentrates on agro-ecosystems, social-ecological systems modelling, and sustainability and transformation change.

Background:
The company "Clarivate Analytics" evaluates the world's largest publication database "Web of Science". The list focuses on current research achievements: Only highly cited publications in scientific and social science journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection™ in the 11-year period 2011 to 2021 were included. Highly cited papers are defined as those that rank in the top 1% of citations by subject and year of publication.
