The Research Group Methodology and Evaluation Research (Prof. Wallot) at the Institute of Sustainability Psychology is seeking to appoint a
Research Assistant / Studentische Hilfskraft (SHK)
(with or without Bachelor’s degree)
to support
laboratory work in experimental psychology and administrative tasks
with 8 hours per week, starting April 15, 2026.
We are looking for a research assistant who will support a collaborative project on embodied cognitive science and scientific expertise in reading (ECSSER). Using mobile eye-tracking and video-based motion capture, the aim of the project is to study how scientific expertise in reading differs between novices and experts, how scientific expertise in reading develops over time on an intraindividual level, and how this is reflected in eye and body movement dynamics. The successful candidate will work closely with Moritz Bammel (Leuphana), Prof. Dr. Sebastian Wallot (Leuphana), and Dr. Guilherme Sanches de Oliveira (University of Murcia) to assist with material selection, piloting, and data collection. The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to run the data collection for this project, which is scheduled to take place between October 2026 and March 2027. The working contract will be limited to one year.

Your tasks:
- Assistance with material selection (scientific texts and comprehension assessment).
- Assistance with implementing the experimental design in OpenSesame.
- Recruitment of participants.
- Data collection using eye-tracking and video-based motion capture (October 2026 – March 2027).
- Assistance with administrative tasks.
Your profile:
- You have a background in psychology or a related discipline and are enrolled as a student at Leuphana University (preferably 3rd semester or higher).
- You work independently, reliably, and conscientiously.
- You demonstrate a high level of initiative and commitment.
- You are available for an entire year (April 2026 – April 2027).
- You have previous experience running a psychological experiment and/or are willing to learn how to operate an eye-tracking system.
- You have previous experience in OpenSesame or are willing to learn how to implement an experiment in OpenSesame.
- You are proficient in English (German proficiency is not required).
- Experience with coding (R, Python), data analysis and statistical methods is an advantage.
Depending on prior qualification, the successful applicant will receive an hourly salary of 13,98€ (without Bachelor’s degree) or 14,59€ (with Bachelor’s degree).
