Werdegang

Lehrveranstaltungen

The course addresses the psychological dimensions of sustainable behavior in the context of fundamental sustainability challenges and questions. It provides an overview of psychological theories and empirical findings that aim to better understand the psychological and contextual mechanisms underlying sustainable and unsustainable human behavior. It discusses psychological levers and barriers to sustainable behavior across diverse target groups and national contexts. Finally, the course introduces behavior change interventions and critically examines their potential as levers for fostering more sustainable behavior.

The students begin to familiarize themselves with the strand-specific case (i.e., context, structures and processes, historical development), and explore possible joint research objects (Part A of the Transdisciplinary Research Process).

Specifically, in this TD project, students will implement their project research plan and autonomously apply methods of transdisciplinary research to increase sustainability in Lüneburg with a focus on the reduction of overconsumption. In cooperation with practice partners (e.g., WWF Germany), they work with different strategies and proposals on the co-production of knowledge and solutions to mitigate overconsumption. With the help of regular supervision and input from the lecturers, the students work independently to solve the previously identified case-specific problem and it is their duty to close these knowledge gaps in both a scientifically and practical manner. At the end of the project re-integration products are finalized and final products publicly presented and discussed.

The Research Forum supports students in developing a master's thesis project at the intersection of psychology and sustainability. Students will learn about possible thesis topics in psychology and sustainability at Leuphana, connect with potential supervisors, develop their research ideas, gain input on psychological research methods and project management, and receive feedback from researchers and peers throughout the thesis development process.
