Artificial Intelligence in Teaching

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important in higher education, offering a wide range of opportunities to innovate teaching and assessment. From supporting course planning and creating teaching materials to personalised learning opportunities, AI tools open up new ways to make teaching more effective and individual. For teachers, Leuphana's websites provide practical information and guidance on how to integrate AI into everyday teaching. It is important to keep ethical issues such as privacy and transparency in mind in order to use the potential of AI responsibly. We will be happy to advise you on the use of AI in teaching or in lesson preparation.

In our AI News in Teaching and Higher Education Team, we provide the latest news on topics such as AI tools, LLMs, prompting and application scenarios in various curated channels. Feel free to join the team.

Below are three Leuphana websites with further guidance on AI in teaching and exams.

AI recommendations at Leuphana

There may still be some confusion regarding the proper use of AI in teaching and exams. On this website, you will find Leuphana’s official guidelines and recommendations: from how AI can be effectively integrated into courses, to copyright restrictions when uploading materials to AI tools, to examination regulations concerning academic integrity and declarations of originality.

AI Declaration

As a general rule, the use of AI tools should be documented. On the website, you will find guidance on choosing between different documentation tools. At present, there are no uniform regulations in the form of standards for documentation and labelling. Lecturers should therefore determine this for themselves. You will find sample agreements on the website that each lecturer can use when making arrangements with students for their seminar.

AI tools at Leuphana

AI tools often do not comply with data protection regulations. Teachers and students at Leuphana have access to the data protection compliant chatbot Chat AI via the Academic Cloud (via the GWDG), . More information about possible applications can be found on the website. Leuphana is working on providing more AI tools - also in cross-university cooperation (as part of the Digital Teaching Hub Lower Saxony project).

AI Skills & Self-Study

On this page, you will find a range of self-study courses organized by skill level: from Leuphana’s Moodle courses (e.g., Basic AI Skills Training or the GenKI Certification for Educators) to external courses offered by the AI Campus, as well as podcast recommendations. The offerings are organized into three skill levels: AI Explorer, AI User, and AI Designer, so you can start exactly where you are right now.

AI events and links

AI tools offer both potential and disruptive effects, which is why university communities need to find a constructive way to deal with them. The website offers an overview of events and self-learning courses on AI at Leuphana and other universities, as well as a structured collection of links to tools and recommendations.
