The AI-Chatbot ChatAI
All Leuphana staff and students can use the AI chatbot ChatAI free of charge via the Academic Cloud. The tool offers secure and GDPR-compliant access to language models for teaching, studying and administration. Further information on security and data protection can be found on the MIZ website and the GWDG website.
Open ChatAI directly in the Academic Cloud. You can find the service via the ChatAI tile on the home page.
On this website, we show you some ways in which chatbots can be used in teaching and provide general tips on prompting.
Use ChatAI as a creative sparring partner to save time on preparation and gain fresh inspiration:
Planning courses
- Seminar outlines: Create initial drafts for session content and suitable announcement texts based on a topic.
- Structuring: Get suggestions for logically structured syllabuses that take your learning objectives into account.
Preparing materials & exams
- Content creation: Generate drafts for slide content, handouts or lecture notes from simple keywords.
- Didactic adaptation: Have texts rewritten for different language levels or converted into new formats (e.g. summaries).
- Exam design: Design quiz questions, case studies or open-ended questions and have them varied.
Interaction & Feedback
- Learning activities: Plan innovative formats such as AI-supported role-plays, debates or simulations.
- Feedback drafts: Use AI for an initial check of student work regarding style, grammar and coherence.
Administration
- Create templates for communication with students, course announcements or timetables.
With the RAG system ARCANA, you can work specifically with your own collections of documents (PDFs, readers, module handbooks). The AI then uses only this database to generate its responses.
Typical applications:
- Consistency checking: Identify contradictions in complex module handbooks or readers.
- Case studies: Students can ask the AI questions about specific theoretical texts or case descriptions.
- Exam preparation: Generate questions based on your uploaded original texts. Please also note the recommendations on AI use and copyright.
The precision of your prompt determines the quality of the response.
- Assign roles: Start with “You are an expert in...”.
- Provide context: Briefly explain the target audience and the aim of the task.
- Take a step-by-step approach: Break complex tasks down into individual steps that build on one another.
- Fine-tune: Ask the AI: “What else do you need to improve the result?”
- Use parameters: For open-source models, use the “Temperature” slider (Low = logical/factual; High = creative/unconventional).
Even when using AI in compliance with data protection regulations, you must ensure you observe the following points:
- Fact-checking: Language models are not knowledge databases. Results may be ‘hallucinated’ (made up). Always check facts critically.
- Sensitive data: Do not enter any personal data, confidential research data or internal processes into the chat.
- Copyright: Clearly label AI-generated content. Follow Leuphana’s official recommendations for the use of AI in coursework.
- Critical reflection: Consider whether reviewing the AI output is more efficient than processing it yourself.
