What is the Gender Diversity Certificate?
The Gender Diversity Certificate is a study-integrated offer for students at the Leuphana College. Participants are certified expertise in gender and diversity, if they acquire a total of 20 Credit Points (4 x 5 CP) in courses that address the analysis and critical examination of gender relations, equal opportunity, social inequality or heterogeneity within the field of Complementary Studies.
Can the certificate be integrated into all Bachelor's programs?
Since the certificate is earned in the complementary studies and only 5 CPs are provided in the complementary studies in teacher training, the acquisition of the certificate is unfortunately not yet possible in an integrative manner. If you'd still like to acquire the certificate, you'll have to attend four additional complementary study seminars.
Which courses do I need to take?
The certificate comprises two basic courses and two advanced courses.
Basic courses:
- "Theories, concepts and fields of application of women's and gender studies" (5 CP)
always takes place in the summer semester - "Theories, concepts and fields of application of intersectionality and diversity research"(5 CP)
always takes place in the winter semester
Extension courses:
- integrative in two further courses (2 x 5 CP) of the complementary studies
- these vary from semester to semester and are freely selectable. They take place in both the summer and winter semesters

Once you have completed all the courses, send an overview of the courses you have completed as part of the certificate, including examination number, semester number (winter semester or summer semester plus year) and your transcript of records to this email address (gdz-bachelor@leuphana.de). You will receive a confirmation which you should submit to the Student Service Centre. There, the Gender Diversity Certificate will be issued by the person responsible for your major.
I am studying in an advanced semester. Can I still participate?
Yes, although acquiring the certificate towards the end of your studies may be more time-consuming than participating from the beginning. Please make sure you'll have sufficient time for both the completion of the basic and the advanced courses.
I have completed all required courses. Where do I get the certificate?
If you have achieved the 20 CP required for the certificate, the Examination Office will issue the Gender Diversity Certificate on application and on presentation of the relevant evidence in the form of confirmation from the Equal Opportunities Office.
