What is the Gender Diversity Certificate?

The Gender Diversity Certificate is a study-integrated offer for students at the Leuphana College. Participants are certified expertise in gender and diversity, if they acquire a total of 20 Credit Points (4 x 5 CP) in courses that address the analysis and critical examination of gender relations, equal opportunity, social inequality or heterogeneity within the field of Complementary Studies.

Can students of all bachelor programmes acquire the certificate in an integrative manner?

Bachelor programmes in Teacher Training: Since the certificate is earned in the complementary studies and only 5 CPs are provided in the complementary studies in teacher training, the acquisition of the certificate is unfortunately not yet possible in an integrative manner. If you'd still like to acquire the certificate, you'll have to attend four additional complementary study seminars.

Which courses should I attend?

The certificate comprises two basic courses and two advanced courses.

Basic courses:

  • "Theories, concepts and fields of application of women's and gender studies" (5 CP)
always takes place in the summer semester
  • "Theories, concepts and fields of application of intersectionality and diversity research"(5 CP)
always takes place in the winter semester

Extension courses:

  • integrative in two further courses (2 x 5 CP) of the complementary studies
  • these vary from semester to semester and are freely selectable. They take place in both the summer and winter semesters

Do I need to register in order to participate?

Yes. Although registration is possible at any time, it is advised to register at least six weeks before the start of the respective lecture period. To do so, please send an e-mail to genderdiversity@leuphana.de. The e-mail should contain the following information: last name, first name, course of study, semester, and information about courses with a focus on gender and diversity you already completed within the Complementary Studies (if any). Once you are a registered participant of the Gender Diversity Certificate, you'll gain right of precedence, which gives you preferential admission to one course offered within the certificate per semester. If you registered for the programme but are no longer interested in obtaining the certificate, please let us know via genderdiversity@leuphana.de as well.

How can I find courses that focus on gender and diversity?

In the study portal myStudy you can search for the individual courses offered within the framework of the gender diversity certificate under the tag "Gender Diversity Certificate". There you can also register for the selected course. You can also find an overview of all courses here.

Do I need to document the courses i have completed as part of the certificate?

Yes. Please formally document all examinations you take in the context of the certificate in this portfolio.

I have already completed seminars with a focus on gender and diversity within the Complementary Studies. Will they be taken into account?

Please write to genderdiversity@leuphana.de to get information on whether a specific course can be taken into account.

I am studying in an advanced semester. Can I still participate?

Yes, although acquiring the certificate towards the end of your studies may be more time-consuming than participating from the beginning. Please make sure you'll have sufficient time for both the completion of the basic and the advanced courses.

I have completed all required courses. Where do I get the certificate?

If you have achieved the 20 CP required for the certificate, the Examination Office will issue the Gender Diversity Certificate in the form of a portfolio upon request and submission of the relevant evidence.
