AI skills for teachers – offers

2026-01-13

Dear Lecturers,

Artificial intelligence is no longer a topic for the future, but is already part of everyday university life. Students use AI-supported tools as a matter of course – for research, text production, programming or exam preparation. Teachers are challenged to engage with the topic of AI in order to remain relevant. The crucial question is therefore not whether AI plays a role in teaching, but how it can be addressed and dealt with in a didactically meaningful way – even if it is not the actual subject of the seminar.

When used responsibly and competently, AI offers concrete opportunities for university teaching: it can help teachers with routine tasks, such as creating materials or structuring learning content. It opens up new possibilities for individualised learning by allowing learning levels, exercise requirements and feedback to be addressed in an even more differentiated manner. And it promotes critical engagement with subject content when AI is used not as a shortcut but as a tool for reflective teaching and learning processes. In addition, it is important to us that the use of AI does not lead to a reduction in subject-specific or methodological skills: our offerings are explicitly aimed at avoiding deskilling by using AI in such a way that it strengthens independent thinking, professional judgement and reflective work – rather than replacing them.

At the same time, the use of AI raises questions – about exam formats, assessment criteria, transparency, copyright and academic integrity. Teachers are thus faced with concrete design decisions that require guidance, exchange and practical solutions.

In this context, the Teaching Service sees itself as a reliable partner. Our goal is to provide you, as a teacher, with the best possible support in making informed decisions about whether and how AI can be integrated into your teaching in a didactically sound and university-compliant manner.
