Gleichstellung an der Leuphana Universität

Leuphana University Lüneburg's commitment to implementing research-oriented equality standards

In summer 2008, against the backdrop of the low participation of women in science and research in Europe, the members of the German Research Foundation (DFG) adopted research-oriented equality standards. The aim of these standards is to create equal opportunities for the successful professional development of women and men and to provide a toolbox for research-oriented equality standards.

Leuphana University is guided by the DFG's research-oriented equality standards and is committed to the consistent implementation of equal opportunities in all structural and personnel decisions.

The goals and focal points of gender equality work include the implementation of equal opportunities by eliminating existing disadvantages in higher education, especially for women, and the integration of diversity and gender aspects into teaching and research. Accordingly, one of the central tasks at Leuphana University Lüneburg is to create the framework conditions for active gender equality and for gender and diversity research.

The resulting equality measures are:

  • Increasing the proportion of female professors and the participation of women in committees and commissions
  • Targeted career and personnel development for young female scientists
  • Measures to increase the proportion of women in male-dominated degree programmes and the proportion of men in female-dominated degree programmes
  • Measures to combine anti-discrimination and equality work with quality management
  • Measures to raise awareness of gender and diversity issues in teaching, research and administration
  • Measures to improve equality work and its acceptance
  • Measures to promote work-life balance, family, studies and career
