OPENING (2/2): Career Paths in Academia

What does an academic career in Germany actually look like beyond the idealized image of “becoming a professor”?

This workshop provides an overview of academic career paths within the German research system, including professorships at public and private universities, universities of applied sciences (HAWs), as well as alternative academic roles and employment models.

A particular focus lies on understanding the implicit rules, structural realities, and less visible dynamics of academic careers in Germany, including temporary contracts, competition, mobility expectations, publication pressure, networking, and institutional cultures.

In addition, the workshop provides practical strategies for positioning yourself more consciously and strategically for the next career step.
