General Conditions & Procedure

The course evaluation (LVE) follows a clearly defined procedure. This page contains all the information on the organisational and formal aspects of the questionnaire-based course evaluation. This includes the applicable rules and regulations, how to register for the evaluation for individual and joint courses, the evaluation process, and specific information for the Professional School.

Rules and regulations

The course evaluation is based on the Regulations on the Evaluation and Quality Development of Studies and Teaching (Evaluation Regulations)(Gazette 47/26)and the Guideline on Quality Development in Studies and Teaching (Gazette 01/21).

These documents stipulate, amongst other things:

  • Each lecturer must evaluate at least one course per semester.
  • If no independent registration takes place, this is carried out automatically by the Teaching Service,
  • The evaluation generally takes place during the lecture term and is conducted online in person.
  • The results of the course evaluation are made available to lecturers and students. The lecturer provides an opportunity to discuss these within the lecture term.
  • The results of the course evaluation are incorporated into the continuous quality development of study programmes and teaching and are taken into account in overarching evaluation and quality development processes

Furthermore, quality standards are agreed with lecturers, which require participation in the course evaluation for every course as well as a detailed and personal discussion of the results with the students. Further information can be found under Teaching Assignments at Leuphana College.

Registration

Quick guide for lecturers:

  1. Log in via myStudy, select your course and choose “Information” → “Teaching evaluation” → “You can register this course for evaluation here”.
  2. First, check the details in your user account or enter them again when logging in for the first time. Agree on a preferred procedure for course evaluations involving co-teaching.
  3. Specify the desired evaluation details (evaluation date, feedback session date, response options).
  4. Set the language for the questionnaire and the results reports.
  5. If necessary, add modules to the basic questionnaire or formulate your own questions.
  6. If applicable, indicate whether you would like a personal consultation.

Please note that the evaluation date must be at least four weeksbefore the end of the lecture period to allow for the questionnaire to be processed in good time and for the results to be discussed within the lecture period!

If no independent registration takes place, we will automatically register teaching staff in accordance with their evaluation obligations (random selection).

Students can also request an evaluation: if at least 10 per cent of the participants in a course anonymously express a wish for an evaluation, teaching staff will receive an email asking them to register.

Procedure

On the specified start date, students will automatically receive an individual link to the online questionnaire by email. At the same time, lecturers will also receive a personalised link to the lecturer questionnaire by email. Participation is anonymous and is generally possible once over a 14-day period (to change or extend this period, please visit leva@leuphana.de). Completing the questionnaire takes around 7 to 10 minutes. Students should be given around ten minutes during a course session to complete it, in order to ensure a high level of participation.

Courses with multiple lecturers

Courses taught by multiple lecturers can be evaluated either jointly or separately. The evaluation account, under the ‘personal data’ section, determines how courses with multiple lecturers are to be evaluated. There are three options (general approval, general rejection, individual decision for each course). In the case of a joint evaluation, each lecturer is given the opportunity to complete a lecturer questionnaire. Students evaluate the course as a whole and express their opinions separately for each lecturer. Once the course evaluation has been completed, the results are sent to all lecturers by email.

Note: As long as data collection has not yet begun or the questionnaires have not yet been sent out, changes can still be made to the course evaluation.

Course Evaluation (LVE) at the Professional School

The regulations governing course evaluations at the Professional School are set out in the “Regulations on the Implementation of Questionnaire-Based Course Evaluations (LVE) for the Professional School”. Lecturers are obliged to evaluate all courses. Course evaluations may also be carried out on paper.
