The LVE is designed as a modular system and can be adapted to the requirements of different courses. It is based on a mandatory core questionnaire that covers key quality dimensions of good teaching. In addition, lecturers can select question blocks, including a customisable one, to set their own priorities. An overview of questionnaires and question blocks can be found in this section.
The basic questionnaire is used as standard and covers questions on key aspects of teaching and learning. These include, in particular:
- Learning outcomes and teaching quality
- Transparency of objectives and requirements
- Clarity and structure of the course
- Interaction and participation
- Contributions by lecturers and students to learning outcomes
- Workload
- A respectful and non-discriminatory learning environment
The questionnaire is supplemented by open-ended questions that provide scope for praise, suggestions and ideas for improvement.
In addition to the student survey, lecturers receive their own basic questionnaire. This captures the lecturers’ perspective, objectives and expectations regarding the course. By comparing the information in the results report with the students’ opinions, lecturers gain useful and meaningful guidance when interpreting and discussing the results.
In addition to the basic questionnaire, up to two thematic question blocks can be selected. The following topics are currently available:
- Interdisciplinarity
- Practical and applied relevance
- Digital teaching/learning components
Customisable question block
Furthermore, a custom question block comprising a maximum of six closed-ended and four open-ended questions can be added. For this, questions can be selected from an existing item pool or you can formulate your own questions. This allows specific aspects of a course to be specifically included in the evaluation. We are also happy to advise on the suitability of the optional course evaluation questions.
