Die Welt ist mein Campus
Empowering students to play a responsible role in shaping societal change. With this aim in mind, the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre (StIL) supports the development and redesign of degree programmes through its ‘Die Welt ist mein Campus’ programme. Leuphana is involved with two projects. ‘Impact Engineering for a Sustainable World’, in collaboration with the Hamburg University of Technology, combines combines engineering with sustainability. ‘PLUS – Practice-oriented Learning at the University School’ integrates practical experience in schools into teacher education – right from the start of the degree programme. Both projects create new learning opportunities by fostering exchange between academia and wider society.
Impact Engineering for a Sustainable World
Joint project between Leuphana University of Lüneburg and Hamburg University of Technology
Duration: 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030
Funding: approximately 3.5 million euros for the joint project
How can technological innovations be designed in such a way that they contribute to sustainable development? As part of the joint project ‘Impact Engineering for a Sustainable World’, Leuphana and the Technical University of Hamburg are developing a joint English-language Bachelor’s degree programme. It combines engineering expertise with transdisciplinary sustainability research and the ability to shape societal change. The programme is expected to launch in the winter semester of 2028/29.
Students will learn to develop, evaluate and implement technical solutions for areas such as the energy and mobility transition or sustainable production. In doing so, they will incorporate diverse societal perspectives and shape processes of change in collaboration with stakeholders from academia, business, politics and civil society.
At Leuphana, the Faculty of Sustainability is leading the project and is responsible for developing transdisciplinary teaching formats. The Faculty of Management and Technology is responsible for integrating interdisciplinary teaching on sustainable engineering into Leuphana's Complementary Studies programme and for evaluating the project’s impact. The Technical University of Hamburg is responsible for the engineering modules and ‘Open Labs’ focused on engaging society in discussions about technology.

PLUS – PRACTICE-ORIENTED LEARNING AT THE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL
Individual project at Leuphana University of Lüneburg
Duration: 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030
Funding: approximately 3.4 million euros
Science-based learning and gaining practical experience in everyday school life right from the start: the PLUS project – Practice-Oriented Learning at the University School – is developing a study programme that systematically connects trainee teachers with school practice from the very first semester. It is to be integrated into the ‘Teaching and Learning’ Bachelor’s degree programme and builds on the network of Leuphana campus schools.
The focus is on the key activities of the teaching profession, known as ‘core practices’: for example, explaining learning content, providing constructive feedback or building relationships with pupils. Students practise these core practices continuously in real classroom situations and reflect on their experiences in the light of academic research. This is supplemented by virtual reality simulations of classroom situations and video feedback from peers and experts.
The study programme is being developed, tested and supported by academic research in collaboration with schools. At the same time, this collaboration provides impetus for school and teaching development: the specific needs of schools are incorporated into the development of new concepts. In the long term, the aim is to establish a regional structure, potentially leading to the establishment of a university school in Lüneburg that permanently combines teacher education, educational research and school development.
