LVE Results

The LVE provides systematic feedback on the strengths and areas for improvement of a course. The results help lecturers to reflect on their teaching, engage in dialogue with students and work together to further develop teaching and learning processes.

Results reports

Once the course evaluation has been completed, the results are analysed and collated. The results are usually emailed to the lecturers within 10 days of receipt of the completed questionnaires. In the case of jointly taught courses, all lecturers involved receive the results. During peak periods – i.e. shortly before the end of the lecture term and at the start of the summer break – data analysis may take longer. We recommend specifying a meeting date when registering the course; this ensures that the results will be available by a specific deadline.

Various result formats are provided for each evaluation: the detailed results report presents the findings in a clear and organised manner, with illustrative tables, graphs and explanations. The ‘EDi – Evaluation in Dialogue’ presentation template allows the results to be conveniently presented and discussed during a course session. The notice provides a concise two-page summary of the key findings.

Open-ended responses are generally included verbatim. Personal details, offensive content and irrelevant comments are removed or anonymised. Where there is a large volume of feedback, free-text responses may be summarised by topic.

All results reports, presentations and notice sheets are permanently available in the lecturer’s evaluation account on myStudy.

Feedback to students

Reporting of results to the students

Discussing the results with students is a key component of the course evaluation and should be carried out as a matter of priority. It creates transparency, promotes dialogue about teaching and learning processes, and supports the joint further development of the course. During registration and later in the evaluation account, we offer the option to select how the results should be automatically made available to students by us, for example by email or via myStudy.

The results are not sent by the Leuphana Teaching Evaluation to officials such as degree programme coordinators or the Executive Board. Only the course lecturers receive the results directly from us.

Interpretation of results

The LVE is an important component of quality management at Leuphana University. As part of this, the aim is to foster a culture of feedback based on dialogue. The results are most beneficial when discussed in a joint dialogue between lecturers and students. Discussing the evaluation results makes it possible to understand the feedback, reflect on different perspectives and jointly identify specific areas for further development of the course.

To support an accurate interpretation, the individual results reports already contain explanations of the key figures used, as well as guidance on how to interpret the results. This makes it clear how the feedback is generated and how it can be interpreted.

Evaluation results do not replace a comprehensive assessment of teaching quality, but provide structured feedback from the students’ perspective. They thus serve as a starting point for reflection, discussion and the further development of teaching.

Aggregated performance reports & Quality Circles

At the end of the semester, aggregated results reports [IP1] are compiled from the LVE data for each degree programme or subject area, and these are made available to the programme coordinators to support the further development of study programmes and teaching.

In the subsequent quality circles, participants are given the opportunity to discuss issues and measures together, based, amongst other things, on the aggregated results reports provided.

Personal advice

If, as a teacher, you have any questions about your individual results, would like to make sense of them, or wish to discuss how to use the reports constructively and effectively, Ina Pidun, the LVE coordinator, is available to discuss these matters with you in confidence.

For individual or department-specific follow-up and professional development measures, the team at the Leuphana Teaching Service offers further information, for example on creating an individual teaching portfolio, peer counselling, coaching, classroom observations and topic-specific workshops.
