Student Assistants (SHKs) for Frontend Development, UI and UX Design
13.05.2026
The Artificial Intelligence and Explainability Research Group (AIX)1 is looking for two student assistants to support the development and design of frontends for current research projects. The positions have an expected workload of 8 to 20 hours per week.
The group is currently developing several technical demonstrators in the areas of Geospatial AI, LLMs, Knowledge Graphs and generative AI. Many of these projects are conceptually and technically promising, but still need user interfaces that make their ideas understandable, usable and visually convincing. These projects include a GeoAI platform, a user interface with chatbot functionality for the PROVIDER project, and a central demo website.
The PROVIDER project2 focuses on the simulation of global supply chains. The frontend will present simulation results related to resilience, vulnerabilities and potential risks in global supply chains in a clear and intuitive way.
The GeoAI platform brings together individual research projects and demonstrators on Geospatial AI within a shared infrastructure. Its frontend will visualize georeferenced data on maps, make Knowledge Graphs explorable and support generative AI-based user interaction.
The website will act as a central hub for the group’s projects, demonstrators and demos.
Your tasks will include:
● Coordination of requirements, design ideas and prototypes within the team
● Development and design of frontends for research projects
● Contributing to the concept and further development of the central research website
● Use of generative AI to support frontend development, with room for vibe coding workflows
● Development or integration of a Knowledge Graph viewer
● Critical review and further development of AI-generated code
Your profile:
● Interest in frontend development, UI and UX design
● Knowledge of web development and programming experience in Python
● Ability to understand, evaluate and adapt AI-generated code
● A good sense for visual design, user guidance and understandable interfaces
● Independent and reliable working style
We offer:
● Collaboration on current research projects in the areas of GeoAI, generative AI and Knowledge Graphs https://projekt-provider.de/https://www.leuphana.de/institute/iis/kuenstliche-intelligenz-und-erklaerbarkeit.html
● Practical experience in frontend development and UI design
● Room for your own ideas in the design of user interfaces
● The opportunity to use modern AI-supported development workflows in a meaningful way
● Work on visible results that will be used in projects, demos and on the central demo website
