Junior professorship „Multimodal Data Capture and Analysis“ (W1)

13.05.2026 THE CENTER FOR METHODS AND THE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY AT LEUPHANA UNIVERSITY OF LÜNEBURG INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP:

Multimodal Data Capture and Analysis (W1)

For this position, we seek a committed early-stage researcher with a visible international research profile and a strong research agenda. Your research focuses on the field of multimodal data capture and analysis.

To enable research grounded in these data sources, procedures for capturing and analyzing data diversity must comply with the latest standards and consider state-of-the-art technology and algorithms. Building reliable frameworks to capture, integrate, and analyze data empowers new research designs and AI models, especially if these transcend and integrate multimodal data sources. This process requires ongoing reflection on the ethical dimensions of AI to ensure the development of responsible solutions. You have expertise in one or ideally more of the following fields: computer vision, pattern recognition, data stream management, multimodal analytics, data mining, interdisciplinary applied AI, and multimodal machine learning.

You show a strong commitment to high-quality research as demonstrated by continuous contributions to leading national and international scientific associations and (premier AI) conferences during the recent years, and an initial track record of publications in conference proceedings or highly ranked international journals according to the CORE ranking (B or higher); ideally with a clear link to the research profile as described in the job post. You pursue a viable publication strategy and have a promising, visible publication pipeline. Ideally, you have already established a vibrant international network and have spent an official research visit during your career (PhD or Post-Doc stage) at an international university.

You have initial experience in the acquisition of or participation in externally funded projects. Ideally, you have already successfully acquired third-party funding on your own. You have a convincing strategy for successfully obtaining external funding during the junior professorship.

In terms of teaching, we are seeking a candidate with first teaching experience in the field at the bachelor's level, ideally also at the master's level, who offers high-quality, innovative teaching. As a future junior professor, you will develop teaching methods in line with Leuphana’s approach of research-based education and an emphasis on activating students and contribute to Leuphana’s educational philosophy. You show commitment to uphold the high standards of our programs and teach with a clear link to the teaching profile as outlined in the job post. You are willing to foster data and AI ethics aligned with research on AI and data, as well as awareness of gender and diversity aspects in teaching and research. Most of our courses at the bachelor's and master’s level are taught in English. Consequently, we expect an excellent command of written and spoken English. If you do not speak German, you are willing to learn it within a reasonable period.

We at Leuphana share the idea of the university as an educational community. You are expected to support the LSMT’s mission in research, teaching, and, in particular, in knowledge transfer and to create social impact. You have a clear concept of how you want to contribute to the school’s interdisciplinary research profile and how to cooperate with the colleagues at the methods center and the LSMT, as well as how to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations at the university level and with stakeholder groups from politics, business, civil society, and academia.

According to § 30 NHG, formal requirements are a university degree in a discipline relevant to the open position (data science, computer science, or other); your aptitude for teaching; and your ability to engage in independent academic research as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of your dissertation.

The junior professorship will be filled in accordance with pay grade W1 and is initially limited to a period of three years. The position will be extended for an additional three years, subject to a positive academic evaluation (in accordance with the guidelines for the mid-term evaluation of junior professors of Leuphana University of Lüneburg). The standard teaching load is 4 LVS.

At Leuphana, you will find an academic community that is open to changes in perspective and cultivates the dialogue among the different disciplines as well as between research and practice. With spirit and initiative, we address the challenges of civil society in the 21st century. Pursuing our idea of liberal education, our students are enabled to think, question, and act upon it. Our professors foster the awareness of gender and diversity aspects in teaching and research.
