Salon-Talk: How should we talk about power?
2024-12-20 How and with whom can we talk about power? And how can we shape these conversations to foster trust while discussing privileges and forms of discrimination? The first Salon Talk in the series "How Exactly to Save the World?" by the Leuphana Innovation Community Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship provided an initial answer to these questions.
In the first edition of the Salon Talks, author Kalina Magdzińska and Steffen Farny read from the essay by Magdzińska and Luise Land on the empowerment reversal. During the reading, Farny represented Luise Land's perspective, arguing that transformation must originate from those in power. In contrast, Kalina Magdzińska read from her essay and countered: "Transformation starts with those without power."
Building on both perspectives, the speakers aimed to identify common ground and develop clear regulations to initiate impactful changes. The focus was on accessibility and spaces: How can we—both individually and collectively—ensure that we create and utilize more shared spaces?
A solution quickly became apparent: simpler language and low-threshold access are needed. We will incorporate this directly into the upcoming Salon Talks. More details will follow soon here and on our LinkedIn profile.
To conclude, a big thank you to:
- everyone who attended!
- the Avenir and Utopia for providing such a fantastic space!
- A special thanks to Kalina Magdzińska for joining us! It was a pleasure to listen to you read, hear your spontaneous insights, delve into the depth of your reflections, and be inspired by your activism.
- Thank you to Ines Lietzke-Prinz and Steffen Farny for editing this anthology! It's wonderful that we can read it together and use the platforms we have to share its ideas.
