From October 6 to 8, 2026, the Leuphana Innovation Community for Sustainable Production will be attending ALUMINIUM 2026 in Düsseldorf—the world’s leading trade fair for the aluminum industry. We will use this opportunity to exchange ideas with industry partners, researchers, and experts on current developments in the field of aluminum recycling.
Our own research focuses on the direct recycling of aluminum chips through extrusion: Instead of conventionally remelting chips from machining processes - with the associated losses due to oxidation and burn-off - these chips are directly processed into fully-fledged profiles in the extrusion process.
The results speak for themselves: a 30–60% lower environmental impact and a strength of over 90% compared to conventionally manufactured profiles.
