Leuphana meets Gamescom

2026-09-21 Game on! This year’s Gamescom gaming expo took place from August 26 to August 29. 368,000 visitors from 131 countries came to Cologne to try out the latest games and connect with like-minded people - and the Leuphana Innovation Community for School Development and Leadership was there, too.

Playing brings people together. Building on this idea, the Leuphana Innovation Community for School Development and Leadership is developing various serious games that allow school administrators, teachers, education administrators, and other interested parties to engage with the topic of school development in a playful way. Whether in analog form with the two card games “Game of Schools” and “Game of Schools – Kids” or digitally with the school leadership simulation “Transform.Ed – School of the Future,” serious games offer an accessible introduction to a topic, and playing together fosters dialogue on an equal footing.

Networking Event at Gamescom

The “Game x Science Meet-up – Dialogue Between Research & Practice,” a networking event held for the first time as part of Gamescom and organized by the German Society for Game Studies and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space, offered an ideal opportunity to present the games developed by the Innovation Community to other researchers, game developers, and those interested in games, and to exchange ideas about the role of games in education and schools. In a relaxed atmosphere, new connections were made, interesting ideas and projects were presented, and lively discussions took place about games and their diverse potential.

An inspiring gathering that sparked a desire for collaboration and further exchange! The next rounds of testing for the games developed by the Leuphana Innovation Community for School Development and Leadership are already planned.
