Job Shadowing
During job shadowing, a student accompanies a professional at work for a day (approx. 4-8 hours). The key difference to an internship is that the “shadow” does not perform work tasks, but gains insight into the everyday reality of their desired job purely by observing. This allows them to gain a first-hand impression of typical tasks and the employer.
The variety of possible fields of work is vast. This makes it difficult for students to decide on a career path. Furthermore, even after completing their bachelor's or master's degree, students often only have a vague idea of what everyday working life is actually like.

- You can present yourself as an attractive employer.
Sample Daily Schedule
The daily schedule is designed individually by the host employee. The following elements serve as examples and can be arranged in any order:
- Welcome and introduction
- Company tour
- Joining typical work activities (internal and/or external appointments)
- Lunch together
- Discussion of current work tasks and challenges
- Debriefing and feedback
There are no direct costs for employers. Students pay for their own travel expenses.

In addition to traditional job shadowing, we also offer Job Shadowing International. If you are interested in students with an international background and can offer a job shadowing day in English, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Registration for Companies
First, please select a department with suitable employees where you are looking for junior talent and which is suitable for the job shadowing program. Then, apply to the Career Service by emailing birte.godau@leuphana.de. Once we have reviewed your documents and accepted you into the program, we will list you on our website with a brief employer profile. Students can then apply for the job shadowing placement via the Career Service. The matching process takes place in consultation with the Career Service and you.
