Digitalisation initiatives in the port of Hamburg

Dr. Sebastian Saxe | CIO/CDO & Board Member | HPA

Dr. Saxe began his fascinating lecture by highlighting the economic importance of the port of Hamburg for the city and the Hamburg metropolitan area. HPA is responsible for providing the infrastructure for the port of Hamburg. This includes maintaining the port area, the transport routes and the bridges; port planning and development and ensuring the safety of ship traffic as well as a range of other tasks. Dr. Saxe went on to explain one challenge facing the port of Hamburg, namely that the volume of goods handled would double by 2030 without any increase in the port area. HPA has therefore developed digitalisation initiatives to optimise use of the transport routes (smartPort Logistics) and manage resources more sustainably and more efficiently (smartPort Energy).
