Italian
Italian is more than just a language - it is the sound of opera, the aroma of freshly brewed espresso, the roar of a Ferrari engine and the poetry of great world literature.
It is the language of a country known not only for its art and cuisine, but also for its inventions: The first portable glasses, the piano and opera all originated in Italy - and to this day, Italian creativity continues to shape design, fashion and technology.
Learning Italian opens the door to a unique cultural world: from Dante's Divina Commedia and Boccaccio's Decameron to the modern works of Italo Calvino or Roberto Saviano, who deals with Italy's current social challenges through literature. Italian is also the language of Grazia Deledda, the second woman in the world to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
But it also means becoming part of a culture that has left its mark all over the world: from Little Italy in New York to the Italian immigrant neighborhoods in Argentina and Brazil.
Italy is also a country of remarkable linguistic diversity: in addition to standard Italian, German is spoken in South Tyrol, Sardinian in Sardinia and many regions have their own dialects that reflect Italy's cultural heritage and are still actively spoken today.
Our Italian courses in the Language and Culture team are aimed at students of all levels - whether you want to learn the language from scratch or improve your existing knowledge. The focus is on action-oriented teaching that combines language practice with cultural understanding. In selected seminars, you also have the opportunity to actively participate in projects on language, culture and society through research-based learning.
