The Language and Culture Team at Leuphana University enables students to learn a variety of languages during their studies, to expand previous language skills, and to get additional credit points.
Here you will find information on the following languages: Catalán, Polish, and Hungarian.
If the language you want to learn is not included in our course offerings, we have materials for autonomous learning in the Self-Access Center. Additionally language that Leuphana does not offer can be taken at the VHS Lüneburg which is free of charge for Leuphana students.

For most people, the degree to which the structure of the language differs from that of other common languages means that more time has to be dedicated to learning this language than to learning a language more similar to one’s first language. NEW PROCESS TO HAVE THE UNIVERSITY COVER THE COST FOR YOUR CLASS AT VHS STARTING ON OR LATER THAN OCTOBER 20, 2026
Language courses that are not offered by the International Center, or are not offered at the appropriate level, can be taken by Leuphana University students at the VHS-Lüneburg free of charge. The university covers the cost. To qualify for this refund, students must provide proof that they have attended at least 80 % of the course sessions.
Excluded from this arrangement are VHS courses in German as a Foreign Language, Low German (Plattdeutsch), Plain and Easy Language, or English. Courses in German Sign Language may, however, be taken under this regulation.
No credit points (CP) can be earned through VHS language courses, either as additional credit points or for Bachelor’s complementary studies program.

To register, please contact the VHS directly. You must enroll, provide your matriculation number, and pay for the regular course fee. You can apply for a refund of the course fee after completing the course. To do so, please send the certificate of attendance issued by the VHS, together with the completed refund application, to International Center at ic-sprachen@leuphana.de via your Leuphana email account.
