Dynamic Placement Test

How does the placement test work?

This internet-based test takes a maximum of 30 minutes. It is made up of listening and reading comprehension as well as grammar and vocabulary exercises with fill-in-the-blank and multiple choice questions.

How can I prepare for the test?

No preparation for the test is necessary.

When is the next placement test?

You can take the placement test at the Language and Culture Team's Self-Access Center (SLZ) (Universitätsallee 1, Building 5, Room 104). Please check their current opening hours ahead of time.

How can I find out my result?

You will find out your test results immediately after completing the placement test. In addition, you will receive a document indicating the level you have reached. Please keep your test result in a safe place.

How many times am I allowed to retake the placement test?

As a rule, you are allowed to take the test no more than once per semester. Since the test is standardized, if you did retake it, your score would change only minimally.

Does the Language and Culture Team offer DAAD Language Tests?

The International Center/ Language and Culture does not conduct language proficiency exams for English. If you require a language certificate for your DAAD application, you can take a certificate exam officially recognized by the DAAD. In the following link you will find a list of the certificate exams.

Register for a test date with the relevant test provider as early as possible. The details of the exam can be found on the website of the respective test provider. Please note that the International Center/ Language and Culture is not a test center for certificate exams.
