Erasmus+
The EU education program ERASMUS has been promoting the cross-border mobility of students, teaching and administrative staff in Europe since 1987, as well as EU university cooperation, and is one of the great success stories of the European Union.
On January 1, 2021, the new generation of the Erasmus+ program for education, training, youth and sport was launched to contribute to sustainable growth, skilled jobs, social cohesion, promoting innovation, strengthening European identity and active citizenship. From 2021 to 2027, the new program has a budget of 28.4 billion euros; this is significantly more than in the previous program phase from 2014-2020. The program aims to reach significantly more people in the future, with 10 million participants. 83% percent of the funds are intended for activities in the areas of education and training.
Erasmus+ 2021-2027 continues the proven program lines of the previous program:
- Key Action 1: Mobility of individuals
- Key Action 2: Partnerships for (university) cooperation, excellence and innovation
- Key Action 3: Erasmus+ policy support
The program has the following specific objectives:
- Inclusion and diversity
- Digital transformation
- Environment and fight against climate change
- Participation in democrativ life, common and civic engagement
The Leuphana University Lüneburg has been participating in the Erasmus+ program since its inception. The contacts listed below will provide further information and advice on funding opportunities within the Erasmus+ program. An overview of all funding lines within the respective key action is available on the website of the NA DAAD as the National Agency for EU University Cooperation.
Project results of the Erasmus+ program are available on the NA DAAD website, in the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform database (all approved projects from the Erasmus+ program line) of the European Commission, and via the online magazine “DAADeuroletter”.
Erasmus Charter for Higher Education
The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), awarded by the European Commission upon application, is based on the European Policy Statement of a higher education institution and documents that all requirements for successful participation in Erasmus+ have been met.
Leuphana University Lüneburg has received the Erasmus Charter for the duration of the program from 2021-2027.
MOBILITY WITH ERASMUS+
The mobility activity is the core element of the Erasmus+ program, in which all EU countries as well as Iceland, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey participate.
The following mobility activities are funded:
International mobility with a disability
University members with a disability receive special support and can receive special grants for the additional costs in the context of Erasmus+ mobility. This applies to all of the program lines introduced above.

Students and doctoral candidates: Blended Intensive Programs
Together with at least two other universities from Erasmus+ program countries, universities can develop so-called Blended Intensive Programs (BIP), in which students participate and which are eligible for funding under Erasmus+. BIP's consist of a short physical group mobility (5-30 days) and a virtual activity - mandatory for students, optional for doctoral students - with a duration not specified. Funded students should be able to achieve at least 3 ECTS that contribute to the completion of their studies. For doctoral students, the workload should equal 3 ECTS.
Participating students are funded by the home university from Erasmus+ funds as follows (approvals are subject to sufficient funding from the NA DAAD): Erasmus+ grants: 5-14 days = 79€/day, 15-30 days = 56€/day, travel allowance and, if applicable, additional top-ups for environmentally friendly travels and for persons with disadvantages.
