International Summer and Winter Universities

Many universities around the world offer summer and winter schools during their semester breaks. These stays usually last one to six weeks and, in addition to subject and/or language courses, usually also include a wide range of leisure and cultural activities. Subject courses that you complete as part of international summer and winter schools may be credited at Leuphana. Participation in summer and winter schools must be borne by your own funds.

CHINA: TU Berlin - Tongji University: Summer School 2026

Tongji University in Shanghai invites students to participate in the Shanghai Summer School 2026, organized by the Chinese-German College (CDHK).

Programmes:

  1. Intelligent Disaster Prevention and Rescue Robots
    (16 August – 29 August 2026)
  2. Intelligent Design and Manufacturing
    (23 August – 5 September 2026)
  • Duration: 2 weeks each
  • Capacity: 30 participants per programme
  • Costs: Accommodation, courses, and excursions are covered through funding by the Shanghai Education Commission.

FRANCE: UNIVERSITÉ DE REIMS CHAMPAGNE-ARDENNE – SUMMER SCHOOL 2026

The Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne invites students to participate in the EXEBIO Summer School 2026 “Building Possible Futures in Sustainable Agriculture”.

Programme details:

  • Content: Sustainable agriculture, bioeconomy, and environmental innovation
  • Period: 29 June – 3 July 2026
  • Format: Academic input combined with excursions and site visits
  • Social programme: including visits to the cathedral, vineyards, champagne cellar, and biorefinery

JAPAN: Rikkyo University: Winter Short-Term Intensive Japanese Program 2026

Rikkyo University in Tokyo invites students to take part in the 2027 Winter Short-Term Intensive Japanese Programme.

Programme details:

  • Content: Japanese language courses for beginners and slightly advanced learners, as well as cultural activities
  • Dates: 25 January – 4 February 2027
  • Duration: approx. 2 weeks
  • Format: Intensive programme with language lessons and cultural exchange (Language of instruction: English)
  • Location: Rikkyo University, Ikebukuro Campus, Tokyo

Application period: 1 July 2026 – 26 September 2026

SPAIN: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid: Summer School 2026

The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) warmly invites international students to participate in its 10th Summer School of Economics and Business (SSEB) and the 3rd Tourism Summer School.
Both programs offer compact, English-taught courses worth 6 ECTS credits per course, complemented by a rich cultural program in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.

SSEB – Summer School of Economics and Business

  • Dates: June 29 – July 24, 2026 (4 weeks)
  • Courses (choose one or two): Environmental Economics and Policy Analysis, International Finance, Global Marketing, Doing Business in Spain
  • Language: English

Tourism Summer School

  • Dates: July 13 – 24, 2026 (2 weeks)
  • Topics include: e.g. Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Policy, Technological Transformation in the Tourism Sector, HR and Financial Management in Hospitality
  • Language: English

Optional Combination

Students may attend the first two weeks of the SSEB (June 29 – July 10) to combine it, for example, with the Tourism Summer School or the Climate Change Summer School program.

TUREKY: ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY – INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL 2026

The Istanbul Technical University (ITU) invites students to participate in the International Summer School 2026.

The University of Glasgow invites international students to attend its International Summer School, offering them the opportunity to take academic courses in an international environment.
