Language Placement Tests

To participate in a language course or just to learn your language level you can assess your language proficiency. All information can be found on the following page.

All of our placement tests can be completed in the SLZ on your own laptop. Please note that if you want to take the English placement test, you will also need headphones that are compatible with your laptop.

Placement in English

Further information will be announced by the end of September.

Placement in French & Italian

  • Ev@lang adaptive test for French, suitable for all proficiency levels
  • Written placement test for Italian, based on the course textbook
  • For applications to study abroad for a semester, the written test is followed by an interview with faculty members in the target language. Please contact Christophe Hohwald (French) or Valentina Concu (Italian) for this.
  • Available once per semester, valid for two years
  • Uses of the certificate, e.g.:
    • for course registration at Leuphana if needed
    • for individual purposes
    • for the application for a stay abroad. In this case, for French, the test will be followed by an additional placement interview. Further information can be found on the page Language proficiency for studies abroad.

Attention: please bring your own laptop and compatible headphones

You can sign up for the test through the scheduler. Additional dates will be added throughout the semester:

Placement in Spanish

individual placement through test and interview, if necessary

  • Written placement test in the form of a C-test (cloze text in the target language). You can take this test in our Self-Access Center.
  • If you are applying to study abroad, please contact the SLZ directly at slz@leuphana.de. The required test will be supplemented by an additional placement interview. For more information, please refer to Language proficiency for studies abroad.

Placement in Swedish

Individual placement through written test and interview

  •  written Test, assessed by the Folkuniversitet Göteborg. The test can be found here.
  •  interview with the responsible teaching staff after finishing the written test.
