Internships Abroad

A qualified internship abroad can be a good alternative or supplement to studying abroad. Especially for internships in European countries there are also good funding opportunities.

The International Center does not arrange internships abroad, but supports students and graduates with

There are basically two ways to search for an internship abroad: on the one hand you can search for a suitable position via internship exchanges and internship brokers, on the other hand you can apply directly to a desired company. In addition, some organizations offer structured and funded internship programmes.

Placements and databases

You can find an overview of placement offers of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), internship programmes of European and international (technical) organisations and other non-profit organisations that fund internships, as well as a collection of relevant internship databases on the DAAD website.

The international student organisations AIESEC and IAESTE, both represented at Leuphana, arrange internships worldwide and support international interns on site. AIESEC offers placements in all fields of study, IAESTE primarily for students of natural sciences and engineering.

National and international placement offers can be found in the job database of the Career Service.

Financial support

There is often little or no pay for internships abroad, but there are a number of other financing options. Applications for support for an internship abroad must be submitted via the International Center or directly to a funding organisation, depending on the programme. The basic rule is that the internship placement must already have been confirmed when the application is submitted. The International Center will be happy to advise and support you with your application. Further information can be found here .
