Movie Night on Campus: Body Electric – A Glimpse into Modern Brazil
07. Nov
On November 7th at 8 p.m., the UniKino, in cooperation with the Self-Access Center, invites you to a special movie night in Lecture Hall 1 featuring Body Electric (2017) by director Marcelo Caetano. The award-winning film will be shown in the original Brazilian audio with English subtitles, taking us into the vibrant São Paulo.
The story centers on Elias, a young fashion designer who works in a textile factory by day and dives into the city’s pulsating nightlife by night. Between the routine of work and the excitement of nightlife, between friendships and personal dreams, Elias searches for his identity and a place where he can freely express himself. Body Electric tells a story of community, solidarity, and the freedom to find oneself, depicting a queer community that provides support and inspiration. The film paints a nuanced picture of Brazil, authentic and layered, moving beyond clichés.
The evening will begin with a brief introduction in Portuguese by the Self-Access Center, offering insights into Brazil’s cultural and social background.
The UniKino and the Self-Access Center look forward to diving into the multifaceted world of Brazil with you!
