MondiALLE 2024: Getting together and singing songs from home
2024-07-15 It started with exciting questions from all over the world and ended with songs from home: on May 24th, the Self-Access Centre (SLZ) invited all students to MondiALLE - an international event for pub quiz enthusiasts and karaoke fans.
Shortly after the first guests arrived at the student run Leuphana University Cafe “Plan B”, our tutors and hosts of the evening Jana and Garance kicked off the pub quiz with the first questions: How many euros are thrown into the Trevi Fountain in Rome every year? What is the name of the traditional Russian instrument with a triangular shape and three strings? Which Japanese city is Lüneburg’s sister city? Whether in English, German, French or other languages, the answers were hotly debated in the spontaneously formed teams.
While the tutors were still busy evaluating the winning team, the karaoke stage was opened just down the hall in the AStA “living room”. Under the motto "Songs from home", the spontaneous singers were invited to sing songs that reminded them of home. Throughout the evening, the enthusiastic audience enjoyed listening to songs in Spanish, Russian and Mandarin, among others. Refreshments from the bar and delicious snacks from the international buffet were of course also available.
Even after the announcement of the winning team of the pub quiz and a small prize ceremony for the participants, the singing continued into the night. But there was more to the evening than dueling with country and cultural knowledge and singing karaoke together - above all, it offered the opportunity to get to know people regardless of their language and to make new friends.
Until the next event, our tutors are offering further exciting opportunities to improve your foreign language skills during the lecture period. In the weekly language cafés, you can improve your foreign language communication skills in a relaxed atmosphere with the help of native speakers. We are also happy to support your self-guided foreign language acquisition. You can borrow language books from the Self-Access Centre or check out the book exchange shelf. We are looking forward to the international cooperation with the Unikino Lüneburg in the coming semester and will also offer our popular language placement tests.
We would like to thank all our guests for being part of this unforgettable evening!
