COST Actions (European Cooperation in Science and Technology)

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a program funded by the European Union to support scientific cooperation in Europe and beyond. It enables the networking of researchers across countries and disciplinary boundaries and supports the formation of interdisciplinary communities.

COST Actions are thematically open, researcher-initiated networks that usually organize themselves over a period of four years. They serve to exchange knowledge, develop new research approaches, and create the basis for joint project applications.

COST-Funding

Funding for a COST Action covers the costs for networking activities, not for research. It is therefore used to organize and finance network meetings, short-term mobility, workshops, communication activities, grants for participation in important international conferences, and virtual networking tools.

Participation in COST Actions often leads to successful follow-up applications in European research programs such as Horizon Europe.

Approximately €125,000 is available for COST Actions in the first year, and €150,000 per year in the following three years.
