Erasmus+ Cooperation Projects
Erasmus+ is the largest education funding program of the European Union. In the current program generation (2021 to 2027), Erasmus+ offers a broad spectrum of funding opportunities for individuals and institutions.
In the higher education sector, funding is available for both the mobility of students, teaching staff, and university personnel (advice is offered by the "Going Abroad" team) and cooperation projects between European institutions and with partner countries worldwide.
The annual call for applications for Erasmus+ Cooperation Projects is usually published in November, with application deadlines falling between February and June of the year following the call.
Funding Lines
The Erasmus+ funding lines support the internationalization of participating universities, promote the quality of teaching (and research), and contribute to the networking of universities, society, and the economy.
The following funding lines are offered in the current program generation:
- Cooperation Partnerships – Promoting innovation and the exchange of good practice in higher education or other education sectors through cooperation between various universities/educational institutions in the EU and/or institutions from different sectors of society.
- Alliances for Innovation – Collaboration between universities and businesses to promote Europe's innovation capacity.
- Teacher Academies – Setting up and expanding European partnerships for teacher education and professional development.
- Capacity Building Projects in Higher Education – Cooperation projects between universities within the EU and those in European neighboring countries or the countries of Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
- Forward-Looking Projects – Developing innovative (policy) approaches that have the potential to improve general and vocational education systems.
- European Experimental Actions – Measures for evaluating innovative approaches in the education sector via field trials regarding relevance, effectiveness, potential impact, and scalability.
- Jean Monnet Actions – Supporting research, teaching, and exchange on European topics.
- Erasmus Mundus Actions – Development of joint European Master's degree programs leading to a Double or Joint Degree (advice by the Graduate School in cooperation with the International Center).
We are happy to support you in selecting the appropriate funding line for your project. On the website of the National Agency (DAAD), you can also find decision trees that can offer initial guidance.
You can find information on projects that have already received funding via the Erasmus+ Projects Database. This can give you an idea of the types of projects that have been successful in the past in the various funding lines. The database can also be used to ensure that your own project idea does not have too much content overlap with a previously funded project.
Initial information on the general conditions of the individual funding lines and project examples can be found in the brochure of the National Agency for Erasmus+ (DAAD) as well as in the slides for the IC info event on Erasmus+ Cooperation Projects. Detailed information on the general conditions, award criteria, and financing rules can be found in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide.
Application
Applying for Erasmus+ Cooperation Projects is complex and requires timely preparation, especially for larger consortia and when taking on the coordination of a project. An overview of the different steps of the application process can be found on the Intranet.
Please contact us early to discuss your application plan. This way, we can offer you the appropriate support. DAAD also offers the opportunity to ask questions about individual funding lines or to book a detailed application consultation via the Consultation Portal for Cooperation Projects.
Project Preparation Travel
To jointly develop ideas and plan projects, a personal meeting with project partners is a meaningful component for the success of a project application. Preparation travel is an ideal opportunity to meet your partners on site, establish new contacts, or verify the need and relevance of the project for the region. The National Agency (DAAD) offers the option to fund Project Preparation Travel for project initiation. Information can be found on the DAAD website.
