Postdoc Appreciation Week 2026

The Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW) is an annual series of events that honour the role and contributions of postdoctoral researchers in research, teaching and academic life. During this period, universities and research institutions in Germany and neighbouring German-speaking countries offer seminars, workshops and networking opportunities. In addition to discussions on various aspects of the ‘postdoc period’ (as a professional role, as a training phase, with regard to different job categories and affiliations with academic institutions, and much more), there are career- and profession-oriented events, insights for international researchers, discussions on the Academic Fixed-Term Contracts Act, and information on research funding programmes.

The PAW is free of charge and takes place predominantly online. Most events are held in English. In 2026, the PAW will take place in Germany for the fifth time. The last PAW featured more than 100 events. Leuphana has contributed to the extensive programme since the German PAW began and is offering two events in 2026: “Black Box Appointment” and “A Grant to Fund my own Position – How does that work?”. Both events are listed in the Continuing Education programme and can be booked.
