Subject-specific area

Sustainability Science Integration Area

In this area (25 CP), students from all specialisations in sustainability science come together and are introduced to the field and methods of sustainability science. This area also includes an inter- and transdisciplinary student research project in which students work on sustainability-related problems in teams together with scientists and practitioners.

Profile Modules

In the compulsory profile modules (35CP), the in-depth study of the specialisation Entrepreneurship, Agency and Leadership takes place. The profile area starts in the first semester with two introductory modules in the research area, which is deepened in the following two semesters.

Elective Modules

The electives (15 CP) offer a wide range of opportunities to develop an individual specialisation with modules in the natural sciences, sustainability and social sciences of your choice. The electives ensure that the Master's programmes are linked to sustainability science and provide additional width to the range of courses on offer.

Master's thesis/master's forum

At the end of the Master's programme, students write their Master's thesis (25 CP). This process is accompanied by the compulsory Master's forum (5 CP) and the exchange with academic staff and fellow students.

Complementary studies

The Complementary Studies are an essential part of the special teaching model of Leuphana. It supplements and expands students' subject-specific learning with the following three modules (5 CP each) with critical academic and practical perspectives from all faculties:

  1. Engaging with Knowledge and Sciences (in the 1st Semester)
  2. Reflecting on Research Methods (in the 2nd Semester)
  3. Connecting Science, Responsibility and Society (in the 3rd Semester)

Masters thesis

Generally, the Master's thesis is written at the end of the degree programme after you have assured yourself of your interests in terms of content and methodology in the previous semesters.

All the information about the Master's thesis and how to organise your Master's thesis in five steps has been compiled for you on the website Master's thesis.

In addition, helpful courses for writing the Master's thesis are regularly offered as part of the GradSkills.
