Teacher Education for Secondary Schools
Masters Programme
The consecutive M. Ed. for teaching in secondary schools offers graduates with a major in a relevant field the possibility to systematically further expand their academic knowledge in their subject, while enhancing their professional orientation. The four-semester program follows the European system of Bachelor and Masters degrees as defined by the Bologna process, and also meets the specific guidelines for teacher education established by the state of Lower Saxony and the conference of cultural affairs ministers.
Please Note: The M. Ed. for teaching in secondary schools is offered in the German language and is thus directed at prospective students with a good command of German. The programme’s German-language web pages provide detailed information needed on the content of the course and application procedures.

Content and Programme Structure
Students in the M. Ed. degree for teaching professionals in secondary schools study the two instructional subjects that they had already chosen as part of their Bachelor degree while also developing their professional knowledge in the educational sciences.

- Physical Education
A long-time internship at a school in Lower Saxony and a research project are integrated into the curriculum.
The modules Diagnostics and Psychology for change in secondary schools in the first semester and School Development in the fourth semester offer interdisciplinary topics central to the professionalization of future teachers. The Leuphana degree program expands and systemizes the specific scientific, didactic and educational knowledge and skills that students acquired in their previous Bachelor studies.

Prospects
The successful completion of the Masters degree entitles students to be admitted into their preparatory service for teacher certification in secondary schools (level I). With the completion of a academic Masters degree, students may pursue teaching responsibilities in continuing education as well as in universities of applied sciences.
Upon completion of the degree program students receive the Master of Education (M.Ed.).
Aspirants
The consecutive Masters degree for teaching in secondary schools is directed towards graduates who have completed a related Bachelors degree.
Doctoral Track
As a student in our programme, you have the opportunity to start your doctorate early via the Doctoral Track. Thus, you to become part of the scientific community of our doctoral research groups at an early stage, giving you the unique opportunity to combine your Master's and doctoral studies and, with your doctorate in sight, to obtain your Master's degree en-route.
